A tour of your taste buds: how to sip wine properly

There are many theories as to how wine should be enjoyed. Some individuals who prefer to relive their college days may be more inclined to engage in the proverbial chugging as if they are drinking a pint of beer. However, wine is to be savored; imbibing and clinging to that last sip flushing over the palate to discern the wine's essence or finish that every bottle renders.

The prevailing school of thought is that wine should be drank slowly, effortlessly and purposefully. One should sip and hold wine on the center of the tongue, swish it back and forth to release its complexities or "bouquet" before swallowing. Wine is personal to the individual. While some may prefer lighter, floral, citrusy tastes, others prefer more bold, fruit forward finishes. Ultimately, wine is an intimate experience to its drinker. Wine tasting encompasses an experience inherent only to the person engaging in it and no two experiences are exact. To that end, there should be no self imposed pressure in learning the science of wine drinking. Buy and drink what you like, as there is no incorrect response in the ever changing process of enjoying wine.
